Tai Hung Fai Charitable Foundation
We do believe that being successful comes with a great responsibility to provide for others.
Over the years, THF has been engaging in many charitable initiatives to address the pressing needs of the community. Established in 2013, Tai Hung Fai Charitable Foundation (“Foundation”) mainly supports NGOs providing care and medical support for the disadvantaged elderly and under-privileged children. The Foundation also offers a variety of funding programmes including scholarships, fellowships, and professorship for research studies related to healthy aging and Pediatrics.
Community Pharmacy
As the first non-profit community pharmacy in Hong Kong, "Philanthropic Community Pharmacy" is dedicated to enhancing citizens' ability to self-manage their illnesses. Tai Hung Fai Charitable Foundation supported the St James Settlement Hong Kong to set up a new service point in Sham Shui Po to continue helping the public. The pharmacy has also launched a "Home Medicine Kit Service," where pharmacists first provide medical services to citizens to ensure that the medications are suitable for consumption before dispensing the medicine kits.
Mobile Health Centre
The Foundation endeavours to provide funding on different community services programmes to the needy people. One of the initiatives is the PolyU-Henry G. Leong Mobile Integrative Health Center, which offered free health screening and monitoring services for the elderly in Hong Kong.
Response to the Pandemic
During the pandemic, Tai Hung Fai Charitable Foundation partnered with Canossa Hospital and HK Asia Heart Centre to work out a program named “暖心行動之嘉家護心2022” which aims at alleviated the heavy burden of the public hospital system. The program allows around 100 HA patients to undertake the Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty procedure in Canossa Hospital at price similar to Hospital Authority. This plan is expected to help divert patients seeking treatment in the emergency rooms of public hospitals, allowing public hospitals to focus on treating COVID-19 patients.
Elderly Centres
The Foundation also works with Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to establish the Henry G. Leong Community Support Centre for the Elderly to provide one-stop-full-spectrum services to elders with dementia and their care-givers.
Research funding
The foundation's initiatives focus on medical research funding in recent years. Starting with two of the Foundation's largest sums of funding in Canada, the Edwin SH Leong Centre for Healthy Children at UofT and the Edwin SH Leong Healthy Aging Centre at UBC. The Foundation aims at setting up a collaborative medical science network of experts around the globe in order to advance the quality of life for individuals from young to old age.
